Well, skeptics make a lot of fuss, but Lotus does not care. That was what the attitude with Gerard Lopez who owns the Lotus team showed when he was asked about the public image of Raikkonen whom they have signed in for a two year contract.
The Finnish driver, who is acclaimed as one of the most naturally talented drivers ever seen in F1, is notorious for his attitude towards media and sponsors. Though he has already proved his talent by being the winner of 18 Grand Prix with Ferrari and McLaren and keeps a set of records in his name, he is known for his laziness and uncooperative attitude with the sponsors. But, Lotus does not feel that, according to Lopez.
The new contract is expected to give a much awaited come back for the talented driver, popularly known by his nick name ‘ice man’, to F1 from his stint in rallying for two years. “He smiles a lot when he is with us” said Lopez in a recent statement.
However, it was not straight road ahead for team Lotus before hooking the iceman in. Lopez indirectly admitted that he and the team boss Eric Boullier had mulled over the matter well, before considering him for the 2012 line up.
But now things are very clean. Lopez says that RaiKKonen feels very good with them and feels home with Lotus and nobody frowns up on it. After all, the iceman has already pulled the trigger with a trailer of what is imminent by recording the fastest pre-season testing time recently.
