About 300 animation enthusiasts from across Kerala and other parts of the country converged at Thiruvananthapuram Technopark for a two-day summit on the Art of Animation, which had prominent personalities from the film and animation arena imparting their knowledge on the ever evolving animation scenario.
The Animation Masters Summit 2015 was formally inaugurated by noted filmmaker T K Rajeev Kumar, while Anu Sikka, Head of Programming & Scheduling, Kids Cluster at Nickelodeon India was the Special Guest.
According to P Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Media Group, which is hosting the event, “Animation Masters Summit is our initiative to celebrate and promote the Art of Animation. The event is also a platform for the young and aspiring Talents to meet and interact with the Masters of their field and to whom they look up to. He urged the young enthusiasts to get inspired by the stories of the masters and become future masters.”
In his inaugural address, T K Rajeev Kumar said, “Animation is a great medium of art to reach out to millions of people where language is not a barrier. The story is the king which communicates through creative visuals which is perhaps the limitation of real films. Animation Masters Summit is a great platform to bring this medium to the art lovers and expose them to the myriad opportunities of creativity and technology and to hear it from the Masters of Animation.”
Anu Sikka, in her special address, talked about how broadcasters like them are in search of good shows that can keep the audience – mainly kids engrossed.
She said, “Kids today are demanding fresh content and therefore Intellectual Property has gained a lot of importance. There is a wide acceptance amongst broadcasters and audience for Indian content which is changing trend in the industry today. Going forward the industry will need good shows be that Indian content or any other content and strong storytelling and concepts will make a major breakthrough in this industry.” She congratulated the Toonz team for the massive success of their show Pakdam Pakdai which is one of the most successful shows on Nickelodeon.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by sessions by Masters: Suresh Eriyat on Design and Films; Kelvin Ali on Find your creativity spark to create educational applications for a better tomorrow; Shilpa Ranade on Indigenous Animation, and Anil Wanwari, Role of Media in AVCG (Animation, VFX, Coming & Gaming) sector.
The event will also have sessions by Kireet Khurana on Visual Storytelling: The Art of Animation storytelling; Angus Fletcher on Developing Ideas, telling stories and persuading people to buy them; Gitanjali Rao on the making of ‘True Love Story’ and Philippe Gluckman on the making of Penguins of Madagascar.
