Next week, cricket fans in India would witness an Indian parade on Sri Lankan soil. But there are some curious players raring to go at the triangular series between the A-teams of South Africa, Australia and home squad India. They are the young boys including Sanju Samson, foreseeing the series as a stepping stone.
Judging the series as crucial will be the eyes of selectors too, who might be expecting the surge of brighter prospects in this tournament. It’s not that the current Indian squad has vacant slots. Yet, Virat Kohli’s leadership tenure is just taking its flight, and we can expect that to be rife with trials and errors.
Currently, the Indian squad is off to Sri Lanka with Wriddhiman Saha picked as the man to keep the wickets. The selectors and the skipper himself might see him out as the one to carry on with the role in the coming series. But equally valid is the prospect of a break for Sanju Samson on international turf. And if that’s bound to happen, it’s essential that he makes the most out of the ongoing tournament.
His entry into the Test-squad can only be seen as something that might be happening over a course of time. If there lies an opportunity for him to don the senior squad jersey, that looks brighter through his performance the colored jersey.
A solid run in the ongoing series would only bolster the belief of selectors to look towards the young wicket-keeper. That would also mean Sanju could well put behind the bad patches he had in the recent T20 domestic stint. The door to the senior squad can open anytime for the young lad. But the on-going series will decide whether he will be dashing towards it rather than making a stroll.
