Thiruvananthapuram: HLL Lifecare Ltd has won the prestigious Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar, the ninth time the central public sector enterprise is being honoured for its outstanding performance in implementing the official language, Hindi.
HLL won the first prize among the public sector organisations in South India. President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to HLL Chairman & Managing Director Dr M Ayyappan at a function in Delhi on September 14, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Ministers of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, Rajbhasha Department Secretary Gireesh Shankar were also present on the occasion.
The Rajbhasha awards, instituted by the Union Home Ministry and the Department of Official Language, are given annually for outstanding achievement in promoting the Official Language Policy of the government.
Hindi Diwas is observed all over the country to commemorate Hindi being adopted as the official language of the constituent assembly on September 14, 1949. The presentation of Rajbhasha awards by the President is the high point of the celebrations.
P Indira, an employee of the HLL Peeroorkada factory was honoured with the Rajbhasha Gaurav Award for an article in Samanwaya, HLL’s Rajbhasha magazine, on HLL’s contribution to healthcare. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs 22,000 and a citation.
“We have succeeded in popularising Hindi among our employees and this award is a reward for our continuous efforts,” said Ayyappan. “We have put into practice innovative ways of promoting Hindi among employees, with competitions, games, entertainment programmes and the like for the employees and their families,” he added.
