Madrasas Educational Institutions, says Kerala HC; Allows Setting Up of Poll Booths

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has rejected a plea against the decision to set up polling booths at madrasas, saying that madrasas are educational institutions and not places of worship.

The plea was that madrasas are places where religious classes are held and so allotting polling booths went against the norms laid out by the Election Commission.

However, the High Court struck down the plea, ruling that the madrasas are also institutions that provide basic education to children, and so their doubling up as polling booths in the time of elections is not against the norms.
