Seer’s Death: Kerala HC Asks State to Clarify Why Further Probe Isn’t Possible

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to submit an explanation on how the Sivagiri Mutt seer Saswathikananda had drowned when it is believed that he knew swimming very well. The seer’s relatives had already submitted that he knew swimming and that death by drowning was not to be believed.

The HC directive came while considering a plea seeking a further probe into the death. If there could be new details in connection with the death, the court wondered why a new probe cannot be initiated.

The High Court asked the government to furnish its explanation on the matter within two weeks.

Meanwhile, the State Government, in a submission before the court, clarified that the case was probed into by six Superintendents of Police and they were not able to find anything unnatural in the case.
