Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rains that lashed over Kerala failed to play spoilsport as heavy turnout was recorded in the first phase of the local body polls in seven districts of the state. As polling came to a close at 5 PM, the voter turnout stood at 76.20 per cent.
While Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam saw lower voter turnout, Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Idukki and Kasaragod recorded brisk polling.
KERALA LOCAL BODY POLLS
Though the rains that lashed over the state in the morning kept many indoors, most of them came out to exercise their franchise during the later hours of the day.
Polling today was by and large peaceful except a few brawls reported from different places.
It has also been reported that two LDF candidates were attacked in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram during the early hours. There were also incidents of malfunctioning of the EVMs in a few booths.
