Thiruvananthapuram: It looks like woes of the ruling UDF in Kerala has no end. The bar bribery scandal has seen the uprooting of one of the state’s most high profile politicians from the post of a cabinet minister only a day ago. And, on Wednesday, another minister has found himself in a soup.
Excise Minister K Babu had already been in the middle of the bar bribery scam after liquor baron Biju Ramesh had leveled charges against him several months ago. Though the focus of all discussions was on Finance Minister K M Mani, Kerala knew Babu’s time would also come.
And, it has, with Biju Ramesh revealing that he would file a case against Babu next week. Stating that he had given Minister Babu Rs 50 lakh each on two occasions at the Secretariat, Biju Ramesh challenged the Excise Minister Babu to undergo a narcoanalysis test.
Lambasting the state government for protecting Babu, Biju Ramesh said that the officer before whom he had appeared to give his statement was not ready to record the statement against Babu. The officer wanted him to speak only about K M Mani.
Reacting to K Babu’s statement on Wednesday morning that he would move ahead with the defamation case against the liquor baron, Biju Ramesh also said that many people, including leaders of the Congress party, had requested me not to trouble Babu.
He added that he is going ahead with a defamation suit against Babu next week.
