Thrissur: Metroman E Sreedharan has welcomed the demonetisation of high value currency notes by the Union Government, saying “it is a right step in the right direction, which will surely boost the economy of the country”.
“It is going to be a boom to the country”, he said, on the sidelines of a function organised by the South Indian Bank to distribute scholarship for the students for higher studies. Relying on the large-scale illegal transactions in cash and evading taxes are indicators of a culture of greed and an inherent value crisis in the society, he added.
”The recent move by the Government to curb corruption and the generation of black money, is a welcome move,” said Sreedharan. The Principal Architect of Konkan Railways and adviser to Delhi and Metro Railway Corporation, said “Large denomination notes provide an easy way of stashing illegal and ill-gotten money. The Government move will thwart the black money in the country, while encouraging the upright citizens and keeping anti-national elements in check”.
According to Sreedharan, while the move has posed inconvenience to some people, in the long run, the intervention will embolden those who are honest. It would encourage many more to be transparent in their dealings, he pointed out.
The Metroman expressed hope that the Government would continue to ensure steps to overcome the present difficulties, being faced by people. “After all, our country is developing fast and in such a scenario, digitisation is sooner the better”, Sreedharan said. He said the first phase of metro service from Aluva 5 to Palarivattam would start in March.
