Kochi: The Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) Club scouting festival organized at the Ambedkar Stadium, Ernakulam, today picked as many as 60 young hopefuls who were found to be passionate about football.
Coaches from the Kerala Blasters’ grassroots development programme, Piet Huber, Technical Directors of grassroots development for ISL, and Mark Vaessan, Head Coach of RFYC, picked the probables from among many aspirants who lined for the event.
The club scouting festival started with the aspiring talents’ technical skills being put to test. They took part in passing and receiving drills, and then the focus then shifted to their positional play with the lads being asked to go up against one another.
According to Kerala Blasters FC CEO Varun Tripuraneni, “All the 60 students who participated were found to be very passionate about football and have shown exceptional skills to the best of their capabilities. We are hopeful that quite a number of them would be chosen for the week-long training in Mumbai. This is a great opportunity for these kids to showcase their passion towards the game as this will help them chalk out a career in Football going forward.”
“Kerala has a lot of talented players in football and therefore Kerala Blasters are quite focused on strengthening the grassroots level training to identify talent and provide them with the best training in the game,” he added.
The 60 young participants will be rated on the basis of their positional play, passing ability, shooting accuracy, ball control, technical ability, etc. The list of the chosen players will be published on April 16.
The youngsters will be sent to Mumbai for a week-long camp in May, which will be the RFYC Final Selection Camp. In Mumbai, these children will undergo theory sessions and practical sessions and the coaches will then evaluate the chosen few after more rigorous training regimes which look to test their technical skills and physical endurance.
On the conclusion of the final selection camp, the most deserving players will be awarded a prestigious scholarship, which will offer them an opportunity to train regularly, while also enhancing their academic acumen.
