New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor MP said that the issue of death sentence slapped on former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav by Pakistan should not be politicized.
Interestingly, his statements echo the stance taken by the Centre in the issue. While speaking to a television channel, the MP also urged the Centre should take stringent measures including the recall of the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan.
Though major political parties supported the Union Government in the issue, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge had strongly criticized the Centre in Lok Sabha that it had faltered in handling the issue. But now, Shashi Tharoor is supporting the opinion of the Centre that it shouldn’t be politicized.
Tharoor also added that such violation and attack from Pakistan are due to the inconsistency in the policies against Pakistan by the Centre. He remarked that it is high time Modi understood this seriously.
According to Tharoor, approaching the International Court of Justice in Kulbhushan’s case would delay the process. He said that the Centre can use the pact of handing over culprits between countries. The MP from Thiruvananthapuram also added that Kulbhushan’s trial was not transparent.
Tharoor opined that India should pass a resolution against Pakistan’s actions as well as try to exert pressure in international-level.
