Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet today decided to implement a new insurance scheme for government employees and pensioners based on the recommendations by the 10th pay commission.
However, the current medical reimbursement scheme available for the government staff will continue till the implementation of the new scheme, an official release said here.
According to the new scheme, Rs 300 will be deducted as monthly premium from the salary of the staff, and in the case of pensioners, the current medical allowance of Rs 300 giving them every month will be paid as monthly premium, it added.
With the implementation of the new scheme, the Government expects that it can bring down the annual expenditure of Rs 230 crore in this regard, the release said.
Once the new scheme is implemented, the employees the pensioners can avail the treatment facility from listed private hospitals without paying the money during their treatment.
It also decided to provide more priority to four insurance companies functioning in the public sector.
The new scheme is also extended to those taking treatment in the out- patient category.
