Kaithal: A Sanskrit teacher attempted to molest a Class 8 girl in Government Primary School Dumara village of Kaithal district in Haryana following which the agitated villagers protested and locked the school gates yesterday.
Demanding arrest of the teacher, villagers raised slogans against the administration and education department.
The villagers continued their protest for over two hours. On getting information about this incident, Tahsildar Chander Mohan Bishnoi, BEO Mahesh Chand and Kalayat SHO Nitin Kumar rushed to the school.
Assuring action against the guilty teacher, the officials persuaded villagers to open school gates.
According to information, Sanskrit teacher Shiv Kumar had been allegedly harassing the victim for some time, and on Saturday he tried to physically assault the girl during school hours after taking her to a room.
The girl started crying, following which the teacher fled from the school. After reaching home, the victim narrated the incident to her family.
The mother of victim reached school on Monday and reprimanded the teacher in the presence of other teachers, who allegedly misbehaved with her.
However, soon thereafter the teacher left the school. Yesterday, family members of girl and villagers reached and inquired about the teacher, who was not present. They got agitated and locked the school gates.
Meanwhile, the mother of girl said that the matter had been brought to the notice of School Head earlier but inaction on his part boosted the morale of teacher.
Mahesh Chand BEP and SHO told reporters that a complaint against the teacher had been received and matter is now under investigation and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty.
