Kochi: The trial service of Kochi Metro, which will be done using four trains, has begun today morning. It will continue till 9.30pm today.
Along with the service, several infrastructure facilities set up for the Metro service will also be evaluated. Even though the trial run is just like the normal service, no passengers will be allowed to travel on the train.
The train will stop at all the stations from Aluva to Palarivattom during the trial service. The functioning of announcement facility and the display of information regarding respective stations will also be tested.
In the coming days, the number of trains will be increased. In the first phase, there are six trains for the service. According to Metro authorities, trial run will go on till they are convinced that the service and other facilities are up to snuff.
Kochi Metro got the nod for commencing its journey yesterday from Central Metro Rail Safety Commissioner after three days of intensive test. The official has lauded Kochi Metro as the best Metro service in the country. Kochi Metro also has the credit of conducting the longest inaugural service within a short time.
It is expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the service by the end of this month or in June.
