Thiruvananthapuram: The Habitat Technology Group will build 1,000 houses under the LIFE mission project, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here yesterday.
“Nearly five lakh families are deprived of a home in the State and LIFE Mission is envisaged as a complete rehabilitation package to directly benefit the homeless and landless in Kerala. Over the next five years, the project will see a number of notable agencies and institutions, including Habitat, work with the government to fulfill the potential of this comprehensive housing scheme,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the four-day exhibition “HabFest-30,” which was conducted as part of Habitat’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
At the event, the CM handed over a memorandum to Habitat Chairman Padma Shri Shankar G. to mark the commitment.
According to a press release, Habitat will collaborate with a number of partners, including SNDP Yogam, to fulfill the mandate.
The Chief Minister also gave away National Habitat awards for Green architecture to W.R. Reddy IAS, Director General of National Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj; T.R. Chandradutt, COSTFORD Director; V. Sunil Kumar, Asset Homes Managing Director; and T. Rameshan, President of Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS).
Dr Shashi Tharoor MP presided over the function. O. Rajagopal MLA, poetess Sugathakumari, actress Manju Warrier and Poojapurra councillor Dr Vijayalakshmi were present on the occasion.
