Kochi: Cinematographer-turned-director Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipaadam has won the award for the Best Screenplay at the 17th annual New York Indian Film Festival held recently. P. Balachandran has written the screenplay of the film. Actor-director Geethu Mohandas informed this on her Facebook page.
Movies from Hindi, English, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarathi and Bengali languages were considered for the awards. The winners include: Best Film- Mukthi Bhawan, Best Director- Konkana Sen Sharma (A Death in the Gunj), Best Screenplay- P. Balachandran, Best Actor- Kaladharan (The Narrow Path), Best Actress- Konkana Sen Sharma (Lipstick Under My Burkha), Best Documentary- An Insignificant Man, and Best Short Film- Aaba.
The 17th annual New York Indian Film Festival was held from April 30 to May 7. The festival generated a lot of buzz after premiering 85 shorts, documentaries and feature films from India.
Parag Amladi, Muriel (Mike) Peters, Joseph Mathew, Mirra Bank, Madhur Jaffrey, Poorna Jagannathan, Udayan Gupta, Tejaswini Ganti, Claus Mueller, Mrinal Desai, Arshad Khan and Sri Rao were the jury members.
