Keralite to Become Mayor of Loughton in England

Pathanamthitta: A Malayali is all set to become the Mayor of Loughton town in the United Kingdom. Pallikkal Philip Abraham, a native of Vayalathala in Pathanamthitta district, will be selected as Mayor on Wednesday from the 22-member council. Loughton town is near Essex city, which is 100km away from London.

He has been the Deputy Mayor for the last one year and a member of the council for the last five years. Abraham will take over from the incumbent Mayor, Mrs. Carol Davies.

Abraham entered the 22-member council as the representative of Loughton Residential Association. He is the son of the late P.P. Abraham and Kunhoonhamma, and brother of former Vice-President of Cherukol village Sunil Pallikkal.

He arrived in London in 1972 for his higher studies in engineering. Abraham is an active figure in the Malayalam news media and social circle in the UK. He owns the newspaper “Kerala Link”, which has been publishing from London for the last 25 years.
