New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has filed a civil defamation case against Republic TV and journalist Arnab Goswami in the Delhi High Court.
In his petition, Tharoor has demanded Rs two crore as compensation and also requested the court to forbid the media houses from telecasting the news regarding the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar till the Delhi police complete their investigation into the case.
The defamation case has been filed against Arnab and the major shareholders of the Republic channel, ARG Outlier Media Private Limited.
“Pleased to confirm this story. We filed (the defamation case) today. Had enough of his campaign of calumny,” Tharoor tweeted.
Goswami’s Republic TV had recently aired what it called an exposé with regard to the death of the Congress leader’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.
It played tapes of a conversation between a reporter and Tharoor’s assistant Narayan on the night of Pushkar’s death. Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel in south Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.
Tharoor said he had nothing to hide and had been fully cooperative with the police. He had rebuffed the Republic TV report.
