Kochi: Stating that the Centre has helped Kerala for its development, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today reiterated that “development” was the agenda of the state and it will cooperate with the Centre in this regard.
Addressing the gathering at the Kochi Metro Rail inaugural function, he admitted the need for Centre-state cooperation for developmental activities and assured all help from the state.
Vijayan reiterated that the state government would see that the development dreams of Kerala would materialise without any compromise in protecting the environment.
He said the government was committed to provide better compensation and properly rehabilitating those who lost in the major developmental projects in the state and warned that if anybody come as a hurdle against such developmental activities would be dealt with.
Pointing out that Kochi Metro work was completed in shortest time and it was a record when compared with other metros in the county, Pinarayi Vijayan said it was an indicator to those who wanted to establish their project in short time which would ultimately help to attract more investments to the state.
Kochi Metro, Kerala’s first ever metro rail project, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Significant about the Kochi metro is that it has a gender-balanced workforce, as several women have been appointed in its operations. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has collaborated with Kudumbashree, the women empowerment-oriented self-help group initiated by the Kerala government, in this regard.
Further, it has also appointed as many as 23 members from the transgender community in its customer service operations and as ground staff. The Kochi Metro rail service has also taken the green route by installing solar panels to generate power on the rooftops of all stations. Kochi Metro also has made special provision for wheelchairs and coaches specially for people with disabilities.
