Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Jacob Thomas, who returns to service after two-and-a-half month leave, has been given the charge of IMG (Institute of Management in Government) by the State Government. He will be the new director of the IMG. Sathyajith Rajan IAS is the present director of IMG.
After extending his leave twice, DGP Jacob Thomas had written to the government seeking clarity on his new post once he joins for duty on Monday.
The letter was given to Chief Secretary Nalini Netto and the private secretary to the Chief Minister on Friday. In the letter, Jacob Thomas said the government has not officially communicated to him about his removal from the post of Vigilance Director.
He also stated he had no plan to extend the leave. Meanwhile, according to media reports, a shuffle of top- level police officers is also on the cards at the end of this month when Senkumar retires. A committee to select the next State police chief will meet next week.
Thomas was asked to go on leave by the government when the court made adverse remarks against the vigilance.
Thomas went on leave on April 1 and had subsequently extended his leave twice – initially for one month and then for another 17 days.
He was asked to extend his leave on May 2, when the government could not find a suitable post for him as T.P. Senkumar was reinstated as State police chief, and Loknath Behra, who was replaced by Senkumar, was appointed as Vigilance Director.
