Thiruvananthapuram: The royal family of erstwhile Travancore has opposed the move to open Vault B inside the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here. Her Highness Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi said that the government cannot open Vault B without the consent of the royal family.
According to her, opening of Vault B is against the wishes of the deity, and she added that the chief priests of the temple are also against the decision.
She said the royal family does not agree to the findings of the former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai that the Vault B had been opened seven times earlier.
Gouri Lakshmi Bayi clarified that a small chamber located in front of the Vault B was opened earlier and this chamber has been mistaken for Vault B. She added that the royal family will not be responsible in the event of any problems that may arise after the opening of Vault B.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the State government to open Vault B inside the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. Considering a petition regarding the missing incident of eight diamonds adoring the forehead of the idol, a Bench chaired by the Chief Justice observed that the opening of Vault B would not hurt anyone’s sentiments.
Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam had alleged that the police were unfussy in the probe into the case and sought for an investigation monitored by the court. But the court dismissed the demand and gave nod for carrying on with the police investigation.
