Pvt. Hospitals in Kerala to Go on Strike from Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: Private hospitals in the State have decided to shut down from Monday to deal with the statewide agitation taken out by nurses demanding salary hike.

The managements of private hospitals have decided to operate only the intensive care units in emergency situations. Under the umbrella of UNA and Indian Nurses Association, nurses launched the protest demanding hike in wages on June 28. The talks held by the association representatives with the managements association and government had failed earlier.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister, K. K. Shailaja Teacher, had asked the nurses to withdraw the strike. She said the government had done its best for the nurses and the average salary of the nurses was fixed at Rs 20,806. But the nurses’ association retorted that there had been only a meager hike in salary.
