DMK Working Prez M.K. Stalin Arrested on Way to Salem

Salem: DMK Working President M.K. Stalin was arrested at Kaniyur toll gate in this district when he came to visit Kacharayan Kuttai lake in Chief Minister Edappaddi. K. Palaniswami’s constituency. He was arrested citing law and order problem.

Stalin was arrested along with 50 party workers. Earlier, police had denied permission for his visit. Talking to newsmen after his arrest, Stalin said that his party has planned to resort to human chain agitation against the NEET here this evening.

“To thwart the agitation, the government has arrested me,” he added. He said the party workers had cleaned the lake and the public had started praising the DMK, which cannot be digested by the AIADMK government.

Stalin reached Coimbatore airport from Chennai at 10am and was heading towards Salem when the police arrested him. More than 200 police personnel, led by Coimbatore superintendent of police Pa Moorthy, had been waiting at Kaniyur toll plaza on the outskirts of Coimbatore. When Stalin’s car reached the toll plaza, the police stopped the vehicle.

The police didn’t allow Stalin to proceed to Salem district. Moorthy told Stalin that there was tension between AIADMK and DMK members in Salem over the desilting of the lake.
