Bengaluru: City Crime branch and CCB Police have nabbed a 31-year-old software engineer for developing mobile app ‘Aadhar e-KYC Verification’ illegally.
The app provides Aadhar data verification by illegally accessing UIDAI server. Addressing a press conference here today, City Police Commissioner T. Sunil Kumar said the arrested Abhinav Srivastav, a native of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, is working in the city at Qarth Technologies Private Ltd.
He was arrested on a complaint from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Deputy Director on July 26.
He said that preliminary enquiry had revealed that after completing MSc in Industrial Chemistry, he studied in IIT Kharagpur.
“Later he joined IVIZ Techno Solutions Private Ltd as Security Researcher, and in 2012 he launched a startup company Qarth Technologies Pvt Ltd., which was closed down in 2015 due to financial reasons. He had also worked in AIN Technologies and now he is working as a software development engineer in OLA Head Office, Koramangala,” he added.
Through his new app he had earned Rs 40,000 through advertisements and he, illegally, made available Aadhar related information.
Kumar said that one CPU, four laptops, one tablet, four mobile phones, six pen drives and other materials worth Rs 2.25 lakh were recovered from him.
He was produced before the court and was remanded in police custody for further investigation.
