Tirumala: Vice President designate M. Venkaiah Naidu along with his family members offered worship to Lord Venkateswara here today.
Earlier, on his arrival at the entrance of the temple, Naidu was accorded a customary welcome by TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Temple Joint Executive officer K.S. Srinivasa Raju and temple priests amid chanting of Vedic hymns.
He also paid his obeisance to the sacred golden altar and the golden holy mast (Dwajastambham) in front of the silver doors inside the temple.
He was in the temple for about 10 minutes, according to temple sources.
After offering worship, Venkaiah was honoured with a sacred silk cloth besides offering ‘Laddu’ prasadam at the sprawling Ranga Mandapam inside the temple complex.
The priests also invoked celestial blessings on Naidu. Former TTD board member and BJP leader Bhanu Prakash Reddy accompanied Naidu during his temple visit.
This is Naidu’s first visit to the temple since he had been elected as the 13th Vice President of India.
Later, speaking to reporters, Mr Naidu said, “I have become the vice president because of the love of the people of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and most importantly the blessings of Lord Venkateswara…to whom I have been offering worship since I was 13.”
“After getting elected to the august post, I must be totally independent to maintain the dignity and decorum of the institution and do my responsibilities as per the constitution,” he said.
“I am going to begin a new chapter in my life as the Vice President of India, which is totally apolitical,” he added.
