Kollam: In a tragic incident, a youth, who was seriously injured in a road accident, succumbed to his injuries in an ambulance after several hospitals denied him treatment today.
Murugan, 30, a native of Tamil Nadu, battled for his life for seven hours while he was taken from one hospital to another after he met with an accident at 11pm last night.
He was taken to two private hospitals here, but they denied treatment citing the reason that the accident victim didn’t have a bystander and non-availability of ventilator facility.
He was immediately rushed to the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, but treatment could not be provided since a vacant ventilator facility was not available there also.
Then he was again rushed back to the Kollam District Hospital, but he breathed his last on the way at 6am.
Kollam Police Commissioner Ajitha Begum said a case of medical negligence has been registered against the two hospitals in Kollam that denied treatment.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities claimed that they asked Murugan to be taken to the Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram owing to lack of proper facility and non-availability of expert doctors.
Local people said Murugan, a bachelor, has been living in Kollam for some years and he doesn’t have any immediate relatives there.
