Kochi: The Angamaly Magistrate Court has extended the remand period of actor Dileep till August 22. The actor is in jail in connection with the case of sexual assault and abduction bid on an actress. This is the third time the court extends his remand.
In view of security reasons, the court proceedings were done through videoconferencing today. The prosecution and the defendant lawyer were absent on the occasion. Then the court concluded the proceedings and issued order extending the remand.
Meanwhile, Dileep’s lawyer will submit a bail petition in the High Court tomorrow. On July 15, Dileep was presented before the court through videoconferencing. The court then extended his remand till August 8.
The actress was abducted and sexually abused in a running vehicle in February this year. The main accused, ‘Pulsar’ Suni, filmed the visuals in a cellphone, which is missing now.
Accused lawyers Pratheesh Chacko and Raju Joseph confessed to destroying the cellphone. But the police are still maintaining that the deposition of the two lawyers about the cellphone being destroyed is not true.
Dileep has already changed his lawyer Ramkumar. Senior lawyer B. Raman Pillai will represent the actor in the High Court.
According to reports, the police are likely to submit the charge sheet at the end of this month. Meanwhile, the police are also giving hints about the arrest of two other people in connection with the case.
