NDRF Begins Search for Missing Girl Sana Fathima

Kasargod: Authorities today pressed into service National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to locate a little girl, who has been missing under mysterious circumstances from Panathur here since August 3.

Sources said NDRF team lead by senior officer Shankar began search operations in Bankupayam river using scuba diving cameras to locate Sana Fathima, 4. She is the daughter of Ibrahim, an autorickshaw driver, and Haseena of Bankupayam colony near Panathur in the district.

The girl was missing after her return from Anganwadi on August 3, her family had informed.

Preliminary investigation had hinted that the Sana might have been slipped into the drainage near her house as her slippers and umbrella were found there. Coordinated searches by the villagers and government officials including police and emergency rescue staff to locate her turned out negative.

Even more mysteriously, at the time of her disappearance her mother and grandmother were at home and it was raining heavily. Neither of them saw her going out of the house.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Vellarikundu Circle Inspector M. Sunil Kumar has also been constituted to search for the girl. The SIT was formed by District Police Chief K G Simon following directions from the State government.

The police are also probing the possibility of the child being kidnapped.
