Railways Lifts Regulation of Trains Under Palakkad Division

Kozhikode: As Railways has lifted regulations, all the train services will run as per schedule in Kozhikode-Kannur section under Palakkad division in Kerala from today.

The regulation of train services was imposed consequent to taking up track renewal work between Thalassery and Mahe, Edakkad and Thalassery and Kannur South and Edakkad stations in Kozhikode – Kannur section, from 10 to 18 August 2017, has been lifted on conclusion of the work, said release here yesterday.

The Division has achieved 32 km of track renewal instead of 25 km planned initially. Services of many trains were affected as a result, it said.

Complete Track Renewal Works (CTR Works) between Kozhikode and Kannur sanctioned to remove and replace old and weak rails from the track.

Trains were being run with restricted speed in the section identified with weak and corroded rails.  The work was carried out under the Supervision of eight Track Machine Engineers and four maintenance engineers.

They were assisted by 20 to 30 Railway Staff and 40 to 50 Contract Staff.  The cost of CTR work was around Rs 1.9 crore, including the cost of rails, sleepers and the cost of machine and men employed.

Palakkad Division is planning to take up Track Renewal of another 38 km in Kozhikode-Kannur section later in this financial year.

The work has already improved the punctuality and after completion of renewal works, the punctuality is likely to improve further, it added.
