Kochi: The first flight carrying Haj pilgrims from Kerala will take off on August 13. The Haj flight will be flagged off by Kerala Local Administration Minister Dr K T Jaleel at Nedumbassery Airport, near Kochi.
As many as 11,828 Hajis would fly from the state this year for Haj pilgrimage. The number of Hajis from Kerala would be around 11425 pilgrims. As many as 25 children, 305 people from Lakshadweep and 31 Hajis from Mahe have been selected for the Haj pilgrimage this year.
Prior to this, the Haj camp, organized by the state Haj Committee, would be inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in which Dr Jaleel would preside.
It was expected that some more pilgrims would be able to visit Haj this season from the waiting list, State Haj Committee Chairman Thodiyoor Mohammad Maulavi said.
As many as 52 volunteers, one each to 200 Hajis would accompany them, he said, adding that the last Haj flight from Nedumbassery airport would be on August 26.
