Crime Branch to Probe Death of Uzhavoor Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Crime Branch IG S. Sreejith will head the team that investigates the circumstances which led to the death of NCP State president Uzhavoor Vijayan. Announcing this, DGP Loknath Behra said the probe will be based on the complaint that Vijayan was tortured mentally by some people.

NCP Kottayam District Committee had given a complaint to the Chief Minister in this regard. Meanwhile, social activist Payichara Navas gave a complaint to the DGP seeking a probe into Vijayan’s death.

He alleged that Vijayan’s death was a result of a conspiracy to remove him from the post of the President of the NCP. He also demanded a probe into the role of Kerala Agro Industries Corporation Chairman Sulfikkar Mayoori in Vijayan’s death.

Navas has also submitted the audio clip of the telephonic conversation threatening Vijayan for his life.

He said that Sulfikkar had called Vijayan while he was returning after attending a relative’s wedding with NCP members Satish and Nithin.

Sulfikkar had used abusive language, and had made lewd remarks about Vijayan’s female family members, and also threatened him for his life. The people with him had also listened to all this.

Vijayan experienced high BP after the conversation and was rushed to a hospital. The complaint also states that Sulfikkar had called up NCP youth wing President Mujeeb Rehman and talked in a similar manner before he rang up Vijayan.

According to Navas’ complaint, Vijayan had undergone both physical and mental exhaustion after the conversation with Sulfikkar.
