Thiruvananthapuram: With a view to popularising and creating awareness on the wide-ranging benefits of the jackfruit, the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) in concert with Kalliyoor Grama Panchayath will organise a two-day jackfruit festival, Kalliyoor Jackfruit Festival 2017.
It will be held at the Government Model Higher Secondary School, Punnamoodu, from August 19 to 20. More than 200 varieties of products made from jackfruit will be displayed and also for sale. V. Lathakumari, Member, District Panchayath, Thiruvananthapuram will inaugurate the exhibition. R. Jayalakshmi, President, Grama Panchayath, Kalliyoor will preside over the function.
The training programme on making products from jackfruit will be inaugurated by J. Girija, Chairperson, Standing Committee – Health, Block Panchayath, Nemom.
Besides, a seminar on the advantages of jackfruit and making products from it will be organised on August 20 between 10 am and 1 pm. It will be inaugurated by S. Kumar, Vice President, Grama Panchayath, Kalliyoor.
According to Dr C. Suresh Kumar, General Secretary, CISSA, jackfruit farmers in and around Kalliyoor will get a unique platform to display their products at the Kalliyoor Jackfruit Festival 2017.
Entry is free for the jackfruit festival.
