Chennai: Ending the more than six month long feud, the two warring factions –AIADMK PTA and AIADMK Amma- today formally announced the merger of the two groups.
After hectic last minute parleys and hard bargaining between the two camps, AIADMK PTA leader O. Panneerselvam drove down to AIADMK Headquarters for the first time in six months, where he met AIADMK Amma leader and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and formally merged his party.
The announcement of merger was formally announced by both Palaniswami and Panneerselvam on the auspicious occasion of Amavasya, marking a Red-letter day in the AIADMK history.
Panneerselvam will become the Deputy Chief Minister and he will also be given the additional charge of Finance Ministry and will be sworn in today.
EPS will continue to be the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. EPS, while addressing a press briefing here, said that there will be 11 people in a committee to co-ordinate in the merger.
There was no mention of jailed AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala in the press statement.
