Bengaluru: Cyber Crime and CCB Police have arrested a 22-year-old youth for posting defamatory statement on Facebook against journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead on September 5 in front of her house in the city.
Police said that in a joint operation, Malli Arjun was held and a mobile and a SIM card were seized from him.
The accused is hailing from Narayanapura of Surapura taluk in Yadgiri District. He had studied Diploma in Civil Engineering.
He came to the city two months ago in search of job and was staying in his friend’s house. A case has been registered against him and further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Government today offered a 10 lakh award for clues in the murder of Gauri Lankesh.
A special investigative team of the police set up to find the killers asked the public to share any information they might have to help solve the crime.
“General public is requested, any information on #GauriLankeshkillers. Public can call or email @ 09480800202, email@example.com,” the Bengaluru police tweeted.
Gauri Lankesh’s brother Indrajit said that when they entered the house on the night of the murder, there was sufficient light from the live output of the CCTV camera to identity anyone.
