AIADMK General Council Sacks Sasikala, Dhinakaran

Chennai: In a bid to keep family rule out of the party affairs and the government, the crucial General Council of the unified AIADMK AMMA-PTA today nullified the appointment of jailed ‘interim’ General Secretary V.K. Sasikala and termed the appointment of her nephew and Deputy General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran by her as illegal.

Resolutions to this effect was adopted at the meeting, attended by more than 95 per cent of the 2,140 General Council members at a marriage hall at suburban Vaanagaram.

The meeting also adopted resolutions giving the nod for the Steering Committee with Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the Coordinator and Joint Coordinator, and wrested them with full powers of the General Secretary.

Apart from granting full powers to the Steering Committee and to EPS and OPS to appoint or sack any member of the AIADMK, a resolution that the party would no longer have the powerful post of General Secretary, held by late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa till her death, was also adopted at the meeting.

It also said Jayalalithaa was the permanent General Secretary of the Party.

This would ensure that Sasikala, convicted in the disproportionate assets case and lodged in Bengaluru prison, would no longer continue to be the General Secretary as claimed by her nephew.
