Thiruvananthapuram: With the Solar Commission Report giving rise to a political tsunami in the Congress circles in Kerala, the party’s national leadership has summoned Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, Oommen Chandy, MM Hassan, and V D Satheesan to Delhi. The party in Kerala has, in the meantime, approached the court for a full copy of the probe report.
The Congress leaders have been asked to arrive in Delhi by Congress national vice-president Rahul Gandhi, in the wake of impending action against the congress leaders in Kerala in connection with the Solar Scam. Justice Sivarajan Commission which investigated the Solar Scam had submitted its report to the state government, and it speaks of the direct involvement of the senior leaders of the Congress in Kerala in the scam.
Meanwhile, the Congress party in Kerala will knock at the court door for a copy of the full version of the commission report. With the government set to file a vigilance case against former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for accepting bribe, and also a criminal case for helping and allegedly sexually abusing Saritha S Nair, the second accused in the case, the Congress is expected to seek an entire copy of the Commission report.
This, because, the party leaders believe that there’s discrepancy and a political motive behind the government not letting out the entire copy of the commission report. Further, the Congress party has also pointed out there’s discrepancy in letting out the report before it being tabled in the Assembly.
The state government, based on the findings of the Commission, is set to initiate action against Congress leaders like former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, former Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, and bunch of other leaders of the party.
The leaders from the state will travel to Delhi and the meeting with Rahul Gandhi is expected to have the Solar Commission report as the priority talking point. Congress executive committee member A K Antony, and AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik are also expected to be part of the meeting.
Congress vice President Rahul Gandhi has also demanded a preliminary report on the case as the state government announced action against the Congress leaders.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said yesterday that, on the basis of the findings of the Justice G Sivarajan Commission, which probed the Solar Scam, the government would launch further probe into the scam by a special investigation team against Oommen Chandy, and former ministers Aryadan Muhammed and Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan after registering a case against them.
It is likely that a criminal case would be filed against former Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan as he is believed to have been an accomplice, and had allegedly tried to sabotage the probe by influencing the investigating officers. Cases are likely to be filed against all those mentioned in Saritha Nair’s letter, and it is likely that they would be charged with corruption and rape.
Seeing political mileage in the whole episode, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the Congress would not need an organisational reshuffle at the moment. He ridiculed the party saying that it would be fine for the Congress to now declare Saritha S Nair, the second accused in the Solar Scam, as the party’s leader.
Pointing out that charges of corruption, cheating and even rape have been slapped on the senior leaders of the Congress, Kummanam Rajasekharan said all self-righteous leaders, of the likes of A K Antony, Oommen Chandy, Thiruvanchoor and others, must quit politics.
