Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Roma’ widely attributed as one of the best films of 2018 by critics and cinephiles alike will feature at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
The drama film written, directed, co-produced, and co-edited by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, the first director from the country to win the Oscar Award for Best Director, will be screened under the World Cinema category.
Cuarón, famed for his films ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ (2004), ‘Children of Men’ (2006), and ‘Gravity’ (2013), also handles the cinematography of the film.
‘Roma’ had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion award for Best Film.
A semi-biographical take on Cuarón’s upbringing in Mexico City, the film was screened in several other film festivals including Toronto International Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, San Sebastián International Film Festival, and New York Film Festival.
It brings the complexities of human life, and the subtleties of human mind, as it narrates the story of a namesake family with the parents separating and the dramatic incidents. The film will be screened on the 10th of December at 06:00 PM at the Nishagandhi Auditorium here.
